Exclusive to Japan: Handbills and flyers, and instore magazines

are an interesting addition to any music collection and were most common in Japan

Generally handed out from record stores retailing gig tickets, often having free licence to print and design as the saw fit –  if the label or tour promoter did not produce them directly. They are unique and interesting carrying images or photography not featured elsewhere.

Something of a cult collectable and of course ‘must have’ items that you can frame and display. Even better if you were there at the event. 

We’re lucky that our Japanese buyer has been sourcing and acquiring these for the last 20+ years, often from private collections.

DAVID SYLVIAN, ROBERT FRIPP & JAPAN Quantity of Three Japanese Handbills – This is a rare lot of three different and original handbills/flyers from around 1993. Included in this lot are a Sylvian & Frip Redemption – Approaching Silence double
sided handbill for the Redemption Sound Installations at the P3 Temporary Art Museum in Tokyo Japan 30.8 -18.9 1994 – Robert Fripp recorded the vocals. Plus we have a Road To Graceland October ’93 concert flyer and finally a stunning Japan 1978-1980 “Prophetique” four sidedfold out presenter for the box set in Japan. PET SHOP BOYS Dance On The Snow – Go West – Genuine 1993 Japanese Toshiba EMI promotional only 12-page CD sized booklet promoting Go West and the new single I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind of Thing coupled with the FIS World Cup Skiing Championship 1993/1994. Five pages of the booklet promote the album back catalogue of CD albums and Laserdiscs, the latter half showcases the Japanese World Cup skiiers! JOE STRUMMER Let’s Rock Again! – Official 2004 Japanese promotional handbill/flyer produced to promote the release of the documentary film, following Joe Strummer as he tours across America and Japan with his band the Mescaleros promoting their
second album, shot by filmmaker Dick Rude in the 18 months leading up to Strummer’s death in 2002.
