Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.

Art Pepper + Eleven – Modern Jazz Classics: 1959 US 12-track Mono LP on a ‘Deep Groove’ Contemporary label featuring Art working in a ‘big band’ format with full horn section over piano, bass & drums, arranged by Marty Paich, pasted picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear & the vinyl remains in excellent condition with few signs of play.

Randy Weston – Highlife: Rare Afro-Jazz 1963 US 7-track deep groove stereo LP on a gold Colpix label, one of the first American Jazz artists to present an album of Highlife, the highly rhythmic tribal music of West Africa. Opens with a tribute to a Lagos nightclub owner [‘Caban Bamboo Highlife’], & ends on a Guy Warren composition [‘Mystery Of Love’], including such exotic numbers like ‘Niger Mambo’, ‘Zulu’ & ‘Blues To Africa’ along the way, pasted sleeve with small number annotationon the back. The cover shows some faint scuffing or mild patches of age yellowing, with all print legible & no splits. The vinyl is Excellent with light evidence of play only. Magical!

Thelonious Monk – Brilliant Corners: Rare 1966 Dutch export issue of the 1957 5-track stereo LP on a blue & silver ‘reel & mic’ label, also starring Sonny Rollins, Clark Terry, Ernie Henry, Max Roach, Paul Chambers & Oscar Pettiford – a standoutin Monk’s back catalogue containing some of his most advanced compositions. The picture sleeve is a slightly altered monochrome design with the album title in red. This copy was exported to the States & is still in the original open shrink with avintage dollar price sticker attached. There are no deletion cuts in the sleeve & the heavyweight vinyl is stunning Near Mint. Recommended.
