The advent of CD’s seemed like the death knell for vinyl during the ‘90s. That was only made worse by file sharing becoming popular as the decade came to a close and edged into the early ‘00s. We now know that vinyl would have an unprecedented resurgence in later years, which has led to collectors desperately seeking out original pressings from the ‘90s. Those rare Creation records pressings that shaped alternative music as we know it today, the rare pressings of iconic grunge records that are white whales for many, and weird and wonderful electronic music are always popular with completists.
Finding original ‘90s pressings is hard for anyone, ourselves included, but it does happen, and we have great stock of some rarities over at eil.com now.
SONIC YOUTH Experimental Jet Set, Trash And No Star (Rare 1994 US Geffen label limited edition 14-track LP pressed on translucent BLUE VINYL, picture sleeve with illustrated lyric inner – still in its openedsong hype stickered shrinkwrap DGC-24632).
FRANK BLACK Frank Black (Rare 1992 UK limited edition 15-track vinyl LP, the debut solo studio album from the Pixies frontman, special four colour silk-screen printed die-cut cardboard envelope sleeve, with picture/lyric inner. The sleeve shows very little wear, the tab on the back, unlike most copies you will find, shows little wear; the vinyl looks barely played. A really fantastic Near Mint copy of this now hard to find 90’s vinyl pressing CADD3004).
THE CRANBERRIES To The Faithful Departed (1996 UK limited edition 13-track LP pressed on Yellow Vinyl, housed in a custom-stickered nine-panel poster sleeve with purple inner and tracklisting stickered PVC outer. sleeve. The poster sleeve shows some light corner creasing and edge scuffing. The vinyl has a few light surface scuffs on side 1, but remains in excellent condition ILPS8048).
