Jazz is one of the most influential, timeless and enduring genres in music. The structuring and songwriting styles from jazz has been used in other genres such as rock, metal, hip hop and funk throughout the years. It can range from subtle and relaxing, to eclectic free jazz freakouts and has something for every music fan. We scour collections to find both iconic releases and rare obscurities to give our customers a wide range to choose from.
The three highlights we have picked out below are just the tip of the iceberg from our selection, which can be viewed in full over at eil.com
THELONIOUS MONK The Riverside Tenor Sessions (Fantastic 1998 US limited edition audiophile SEVEN LP boxed set with each album in its own reproduction of the original sleeve artwork, complete with insert and amazing 24-page full size illustrated booklet which is individually hand numbered 1950 inside the back, all housed in a high quality silver embossed lettering textured picture box. The box shows negligible shelf wear and the contents are immaculate)
MALAGASY & GILSON At Newport-Paris (Archive Quality Ethnic Jazz 1973 French-only private press 9-track vinyl LP on Jef Gilson’s own Palm label, recorded in a St-Germain-des-Prés nightclub with musicians from Antananarivo. In the late sixties, Jef’s musical explorations led him to the ex-French colony of Madagascar, the island just off the south eastern coast of Africa. Re-released by Jazzman Records in recent years, the album documents an incredible ethno-jazz sound as & when it was released, with instruments including the valiha [a Madagascan harp on bambo], the ondioline and exotic percussion mixed with modal jazz! Recently acquired from a private dealer in Paris, here we have a stunning archive copy from the vaults, complete with original four-page ‘Palm Journal’ press release in French. The front laminated picture sleeve is Near Mint with merely the lightest evidence of natural age wear and the vinyl remains in near ‘as new’ condition – Recommended! PALM5).
LEE MORGAN The Complete Live At The Lighthouse (Long-awaited & highly anticipated limited edition expansive 12 x LP Box Set, an all-analogue production mixed by Steve Genewick at Capitol Studios from the original tapes, mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and pressed at RTI on 180-gram vinyl.
