This issue of Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake is a rare 1969 UK first press 10-track stereo vinyl LP on the pink ‘block’ label with misprint showing track 4 as Way To Blue and track 5 as Day Is Done, original matt gatefold picture sleeve with the lyrics for Three Hours [here titled ‘Sundown’], Saturday Sun and River Man printed inside and correct tracklisting printed on the reverse
The sleeve with this example is printed with the Island logo and Basing Street address along the bottom edge on the rear. This was only present on the first issue sleeves. The second issue had a slightly different shade of green on the front, manufactured from a thicker card and the back just has a small ‘i’ logo where the address is printed on the first issue. The tracklisting lists track 4 as Day Is Done and track 5 as Way To Blue.
The matt sleeve leaves no where to hide when it comes to age wear and this copy, whilst not mint, holds up well. There is a vintage price sticker on the top left corner with a tear visible eminating from behind it. There is some ringwear fading evident to the green border, although nothing drastic and a little edgewear and corner rubbing. The reverse and interior show few signs of age.
The labels as previously stated are the black block ‘i’ logo design, and they remain very clean with no paper loss or writing. There are just a few faint spindle marks indicating very limited play indeed. The vinyl retains a deep sheen and visually is easily Excellent and closing on Near Mint
We have professionally cleaned and play tested and can confirm that there is neglible ambient noise during playback giving at least Excellent reproduction.A simply superb copy of this extremely hard to find first issue.
