Unreleased George Michael songs to appear in rom-com ‘Last Christmas’

Paul Feig’s new film was inspired by the Wham! classic

Previously unreleased music by George Michael will feature in a forthcoming new rom-com, Last Christmas.

The movie, which is currently set for release on November 15, 2019, will star Game Of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) will direct the film, while Emma Thompson has co-written the script.

Last Christmas was inspired by the song of the same name, which was written and produced by Michael, and released by his band Wham! in 1984.

Variety report the film will feature the Christmas classic as well as other favourites of Michael’s. Although details are currently unclear, it is also said unreleased music will appear in the movie.

According to an official synopsis, Last Christmas “follows Kate (Clarke), who harrumphs around London, making a bundle of bad decisions which includes her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two.”

Michael was reportedly helping develop the movie’s script before his death on December 25, 2016. He died at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire of natural causes. He was 53 years old

In May, the star’s family asked fans to remove tributes from outside his former homes in Goring and Highgate. In a statement, they said: ” We feel we cannot expect our Highgate and Goring neighbours to continue to accept as normality, the memorials so personal to you all, to remain as and where they are any longer, although we do appreciate your recent efforts to minimise their impact.”

Instead, his relatives encouraged fans wishing to remember Michael by making a donation to charity or to volunteer in his memory instead.
