Decades: New Order Announce New Concert Documentary

The film provides “a rare chance to enter the band’s private world”.

New Order have announced details of a new documentary that follows the iconic band’s efforts to rehearse one of their most acclaimed collaborations.

Decades will air on Sky Arts in September, and follows the band’s preparations in the re-staging of their So It Goes collaboration.

During the film, the band are seen preparing with the artist Liam Gillick and a 12-piece synthesiser orchestra ahead of their performance at Manchester International Festival 2017.

The documentary also promises to take a look back the past too, offering an unprecedented take on their story by including interviews with some of their closest collaborators.

According to Sky Arts, the film provides “a rare chance to enter the band’s private world, understand the visual philosophy of their aesthetic and design, and witness their collaborative, creative processes first hand.”

The film will premiere on September 22 at 9PM.

Last year, the Manchester icons finally settled a long-running feud with former bassist Peter Hook.

The two parties have been locked in a dispute for some time, with Hook suing New Order members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert in 2015 for royalties. Hook left New Order in 2007.

The band confirmed in a statement: “The Joy Division and New Order names mean a great deal to so many of the fans, and the band felt it important to protect the legacy.

“With these issues now dealt with, Bernard, Stephen and Gillian can continue to do what they do best, make music and perform live.”
