Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.
George Wallington – The George Wallington Trio: Rare 1956 US 12-track mono LP that also features two Septet tracks, despite the title. With the comforting ‘RVG’ etched into the run off area, this album also features teh talents of Kai Winding, Gerry Mulligan, Max Roach, Buddy Stewart, Brew Moore, Jerry Floyd, Curley Russell & Charlie Perry, pasted picture sleeve with tape repaired seams. The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear & the vinyl remains excellent with little sign of play. A nice copy of this hard to find fifty five year old release!
Fantastic Guitar of Barney Kessel – On Fire: Scarce 1965 US original 7-track stereo LP of outstanding, fiery jazz exotica on the light green Emerald label. Barney moonlighted for many a Phil Spector recording session & this little gem was released on his own private subsidiary label distributed by Spector Productions. This was also Barney’s first live night club recording, enabling him to branch out & play more wildly, nice hot & fiery picture sleeve. The pasted sleeve has no deletion cuts or markings s & only the very faintest spot of edge wear. The vinyl is Excellent with just light evidence of play.
Sonny Clark – Blues In The Night: Rare 1979 Japanese-only 8-track stereo LP, the original first issue manufactured exclusively by King Records in the ‘World First Appearance’ series. Contains a selection of previously unreleased 1957-58 recordings, with Paul Chambers & Jymie Merritt alternating on bass & Wes Landers, drums. Comes housed in a unique pasted picture sleeve complete with Japanese insert & obi-strip. The packaging & the vinyl are near ‘as new’. Tough to find unissued Blue Note!
