MICHAEL GIBBS Michael Gibbs (Rare Brit-Jazz 1970 UK 8-track stereo LP, Gibbs’ debut as band leader in a progressive big band style, with song dedications to John Dankworth, Stan Getz & Gary Burton. The collective personnel includes Kenny Wheeler, Chris Spedding, Jack Bruce, John Surman, Alan Skidmore, Mike Osborne & Tony Oxley – Gibbs’ orchestra served an important service as stepping stone for each one of these revered musicians. THAD JONES / MEL LEWIS ORCHESTRA All My Yesterdays (2016 US 17-track double CD album, the largely unheard 1966 debut at The Village Vanguard, initially recorded as a way to attract a record deal for the band using minimal, yet clear recording techniques, with Hank Jones, Sam Herman, and Richard Davis, tri-fold card wallet picture sleeve with 90-page booklet crammed full of photographs, essays, original press clippings and interviews – a lavish set, more info here

TUBBY HAYES QUARTET Mexican Green (Rare 1968 first UK issue 7-track LP on the steel blue & silver Fontana label, also starring pianist Mike Pyne, bassist Ron Mathewson & drummer Tony Levin, regarded as one of Tubbs’ finest albums. The front laminatedflipback picture sleeve has the original ’27’11’ price sticker attached on the back slick, away from the print, with sleeve notes by Tubby himself on the reverse, more info here
