Our jazz rarities this week include UK issues of albums by Gil Scott-Heron, and Moon, as well as a Japanese import CD from Phil Woods.
Below are just some of the highlights, and you can see the full catalogue over at our Jazz Collectors Store.
GIL SCOTT-HERON From South Africa To South Carolina (1975 UK issue of the 8-track LP, gatefold picture sleeve. Mid ’70s album recorded with Heron’s usual partner Brian Jackson, it’s a highly political album but delivered with great insight and wit. Musically, incorporates elements of his earlier jazz inflected work but also shows signs of his later, funkier music. The sleeve shows only minor wear, with a little foxing to the inside gatefold and the vinyl shows a few light signs of play but remains in excellent condition ARTY121).
MOON Too Close For Comfort (Original 1976 UK 10-track vinyl LP featuring a collection recordings performed by the soul/jazz/funk collective with vocals from Noel McCalla supported by the Moonettes, within a fully lamintated picture sleeve. Thesleeve displays minimal wear and the vinyl looks barely played).
THE PHIL WOODS SIX “Live” From The Showboat (2006 Japanese 13-track limited edition double CD album, remastered and reissued, originally recorded at the Showboat Lounge November 1976, featuring Mike Melillo, Harry Leahey, Steve Gilmore, Bill Goodwin & Alyrio Lima, CD sized gatefold picture sleeve card wallet, reproducing the original 1976 LP artwork, with liner notes on the inside gatefold by Norman Schwartz, Phil Woods and other band members, photo’s / credits, also includes Japanese fold-out insert, liner note, tracklist / credits and green obi-strip with barcode BVCJ-37523/24).
