For better or worse, the ‘90s will be remembered for a lot of iconic moments, but mostly it will be for the music. There was the rise of Brit Pop and the battle between Oasis and Blur, Nirvana bringing grunge to the mainstream and influencing an entire generation to wear a plaid shirt, the Spice Girls taking over the world, and Jarvis Cocker’s stage invasion during Michael Jackson’s performance at the Brit Awards.
While music was more popular than virtually any other decade, vinyl was on the decline. CD was the chosen format, rendering cassettes obsolete, and causing vinyl sales to dwindle. Record companies began pressing less and stores rarely stocked anything other than the biggest selling titles. Now, many of the albums of the time are considered collector’s items and sell for premium prices.
We don’t always see that many collections of ‘90s vinyl here, but when we do, you can almost guarantee them to be of a high quality both in condition and content. Below are a few highlights we have in stock, and be sure to keep an eye on our latest arrivals.
PAUL WELLER Stanley Road (Classic 1995 UK limited edition 12-track vinyl LP including The Changingman, You Do Something To Me and Broken Stones. The hype stickered gatefold picture sleeve appears in fantastic condition and has an internal pocket complete with illustrated lyric inner and rare bonus 16-page ‘Excerpts’ booklet, while the vinyl is in near ‘as new’ condition with very little signs of play).
METALLICA with MICHAEL KAMEN conducting THE SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA S&M (1999 US exclusive 21-track triple vinyl LP, featuring a multitude of classic reworked highlights from the back catalogue including One, Battery, Enter Sandman, Master Of Puppets and Nothing Else Matters. The glossy double-pocket gatefold picture sleeve shows a little shelfwear to the edges but has extensive liner notes printed across the inside and comes with the great picture insert while the three discs appear barely played).
HAPPY MONDAYS Pills ‘N’ Thrills And Bellyaches (Classic 1990 UK first edition 10-track vinyl LP, including Loose Fit and Kinky Afro, complete with illustrated credits inner, glossy picture sleeve featuring US candy company logos which was later withdrawn. The sleeve shows minimal wear and the vinyl appears barely played – a fantastic one owner copy carefully stored since its original purchase FACT320).
