For better or worse, the ‘90s will be remembered for a lot of iconic moments, but mostly it will be for the music. There was the rise of Brit Pop and the battle between Oasis and Blur, Nirvana bringing grunge to the mainstream and influencing an entire generation to wear a plaid shirt, the Spice Girls taking over the world, and Jarvis Cocker’s stage invasion during Michael Jackson’s performance at the Brit Awards.
While music was more popular than virtually any other decade, vinyl was on the decline. CD was the chosen format, rendering cassettes obsolete, and causing vinyl sales to dwindle. Record companies began pressing less and stores rarely stocked anything other than the biggest selling titles. Now, many of the albums of the time are considered collector’s items and sell for premium prices.
We don’t always see that many collections of ‘90s vinyl here, but when we do, you can almost guarantee them to be of a high quality both in condition and content. Below are a few highlights we have in stock, and be sure to keep an eye on our latest arrivals.
PORTISHEAD Dummy (Debut 1994 UK 10-track LP, one of the greatest albums of the nineties, with dark hip-hop inspired samples & gripping songwriting, the album still sounds incredibly fresh today, spot-lacquered picture sleeve with illustrated credits inner. The sleeve for this copy has a small sticker mark in one of the corners and the vinyl still looks barely played).
MASSIVE ATTACK VS MAD PROFESSOR No Protection (1995 UK 8-track LP, invoking the time-honoured Jamaican tradition of the dub album, reworked by a mixing board auteur Mad Professor! Fantastic Stephen Bliss artwork picture sleeve. The sleeve retains its opened shrink so has minimal wear & vinyl is in near ‘as new’ condition WBRLP3).
DJ KRUSH Strictly Turntablized (Original 1994 UK 1st pressing 11-track double vinyl LP, the second album by the Japanese turntablist, cited as one of the first Trip-Hop album, single pocket picture sleeve. The sleeve shows the lightest signs of wear and the vinyl has little sign of play MWLP025).
