Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has appeared to confirm the end of the long-running Canadian rock band after more than 40 years.
“It’s been a little over two years since Rush last toured. We have no plans to tour or record any more. We’re basically done. After 41 years, we felt it was enough,” Lifeson told Canadian website, The Globe and Mail. “But I’ve actually been busier lately than I have been in a while. I’m writing a lot. I’m writing on four or five different little projects. I get these requests to do guitar work with other people.”
The future of Rush, who released their last album Clockwork Angels in 2012, was initially thrown into disarray after drummer Neil Peart retired following the band’s R40 tour in 2015. Both bassist Geddy Lee and Lifeson had resigned themselves to the fact that there would be no wide scale touring, and the recent comments from Lifeson seem to confirm there will be nothing new from the band.
