For better or worse, the ‘90s will be remembered for a lot of iconic moments, but mostly it will be for the music. There was the rise of Brit Pop and the battle between Oasis and Blur, Nirvana bringing grunge to the mainstream and influencing an entire generation to wear a plaid shirt, the Spice Girls taking over the world, and Jarvis Cocker exposing himself to Michael Jackson at the Brit Awards.
While music was more popular than virtually any other decade, vinyl was on the decline. CD was the chosen format, rendering cassettes obsolete, and causing vinyl sales to dwindle. Record companies began pressing less and stores rarely stocked anything other than the biggest selling titles. Now, many of the albums of the time are considered collector’s items and sell for premium prices.
We don’t always see that many collections of ‘90s vinyl here, but when we do, you can almost guarantee them to be of a high quality both in condition and content. Blew are a few highlights we have in stock, and be sure to keep an eye on our latest arrivals.
Monster Magnet – Powertrip: 1998 UK 13-track double vinyl LP, the fourth album from the American stoner rock band led by Dave Wyndorf, including Crop Circle, Space Lord and See You In Hell; single pocket picture sleeve with colour illustrated insert. The sleeve has minimal wear whilst the vinyl appears in near as new condition with little sign of play.
Counting Crows – August And Everything After: Rare 1993 UK issue 11-track vinyl LP, manufactured in Holland for the UK market. The debut studio album by American rock band, including the singles Mr. Jones, Rain King and Round Here; glossy picture sleeve with picture/lyric printed paper inner. The sleeve shows some light wear and the vinyl has just the odd light scuff/hairline to indicate play. A more than acceptable copy of this incredibly hard to find ’90s vinyl pressing.
Massive Attack – Blue Lines: Rare original 1991 UK vinyl 9-track debut LP – one of the great British classics of the nineties, kicking off with the Billy Cobham-sampled ‘Safe From Harm’ and including everything in between such as an inspired cover of William DeVaughn’s ‘Be Thankful For What You’ve Got’, the unstoppable hit ‘Unfinished Sympathy’ and the majestic closer ‘Hymn Of The Big Wheel’ with Horace Andy, all performed in their own natural tongue that put Bristol on the map. The picture sleeve, with album credits inner, remains sealed inside the cardboard envelope outer sleeve – all in spectacular near mint condition.
Slayer – Divine Intervention: Sealed 1994 US 10-track LP pressed on Red Vinyl, housed in a picture sleeve with deletion cut & lyric insert. This collector’s copy remains unopened & unplayed in the original shrinkwrap, an ideal purchase as it retains the three black & white artist/album title stickers methodically positioned on the outer shrink.
