Jazz is one of the most influential, timeless and enduring genres in music. The structuring and songwriting styles from jazz has been used in other genres such as rock, metal, hip hop and funk throughout the years. It can range from subtle and relaxing, to eclectic free jazz freakouts and has something for every music fan. We scour collections to find both iconic releases and rare obscurities to give our customers a wide range to choose from.
The three highlights we have picked out below are just the tip of the iceberg from our selection, which can be viewed in full over at eil.com
PHAROAH SANDERS Pharaoh (Scarce 1965 US first issue 2-track mono vinyl LP on the collectable ESP Disk label without the copyright text, making this a more desirable copy of this first mono pressing. Stars Stan Foster [trumpet], Jane Getz [piano], William Bennett [bass] & Marvin Pattillo [percussion], hand-printed pasted picture sleeve. The sleeve has a small split to the bottom opening edgeand some edge scuffing to the spine with the front & back artwork still looking nice; the vinyl has light scuffs with no great impact on play, a very small amount of paper loss to the label leaving it VG. This copy has been played and reveals very little surface noise! – Essential spiritual/free-jazz).
TUBBY HAYES Tubby’s Groove (Outstanding British Jazz 1960 first UK press 6-track deep groove mono LP on the Tempo label, recorded in Tubbs’ prime in December 1959 at Decca Studios & widely considered his greatest studio album. Also stars TerryShannon, Jeff Clyne & Phil Seamen & includes ‘Embers’ where Tubby plays the vibes, fully laminated flipback picture sleeve. See ‘more info’ for condition details… TAP29).
ANDREW HILL Point Of Departure (1964 US first press 5-track mono LP on the ‘New York USA’ address label, with the ‘ear’ markings & the ‘Van Gelder’ stamps in the run-outs. This is still one of the ultimate Blue Note dates that pointed the way to the future for jazz, with expert backing from Eric Dolphy, Joe Henderson, Richard Davis & Anthony Williams. The cover grades VG with light natural discolouring, light edge scuffing & all text is legible – still with Mecolico import sticker to back. The heavyweight vinyl grades VG+ & displays light cosmetic wear on both sides but this has little effect on play. A nice example & as a first issue, this is a must own for the Blue Note collection BLP4167).
