From Planet Rock.
Slade have premiered the first ever official music video for their timeless Christmas anthem ‘Merry Xmas Everybody.’
The animated video features cartoon incarnations of Noddy Holder, Dave Hill, Jim Lea and Don Powell and fully embraces the festive theme.
Noddy Holder says the ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ video “‘is very unusual and comical. It does sum up the band’s characters. HO HO HO!”
Originally released in November 1973, ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ climbed to Number 1 on the UK singles chart in December on the same week Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ reached fourth spot.
It was Slade’s sixth and final chart topper following ‘Coz I Luv You’, ‘Take Me Bak ‘Ome’, ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’, ‘Cum On Feel the Noize’ and ‘Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me.’
To date ‘Merry Xmas Everbody’ has sold more than one million copies in the UK since its release 48 years ago.
‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ has spent an incredible 105 weeks in the Official UK Singles Chart and entered the charts for an amazing 26th time this week. It has also hit the UK Top 20 in the past four festive periods.
In 2009, PRS for Music announced that up to 42% of the world’s population had potentially listened to the song.
