Gentle Giant have released previously unseen and unedited footage of the band being interviewed backstage at the Gusman Cultural Center in Miami in June 1980, which you can watch below.
“It amazes me that there are still things to be discovered,”e says Noah Shulman, son of Derek, and the man who put together the Proclamation fan video earlier this year that saw the surviving members of the band reunite (virtually) for the first time since 1980.
Jack Skelly who compiled Gentle Giant’s Tour History had chronicled the events of that evening:
“Interestingly, Derek introduced the song Knots to the crowd as a “psychedelic” song. One fan claims Giant looked ill during this concert, even remembering John Weathers repeatedly throwing up into a bucket on stage during the show. As it turns out, the fan was correct. The band had eaten some bad burgers beforehand, jokingly described by Derek in a backstage press interview after the gig, as “Kentucky Fried Rat”. This also explains why Derek frequently left the stage when he was not singing. The food poisoning hit the players when the opening act, a group called Hoochie, took the stage, and continued through all of Giant’s set. Gary recalls this difficult gig, but says they still managed to put on a good show, even though they played without their own lighting and sound rig. This equipment was, unfortunately, on its way to Houston, the site of the following night’s show.”

GENTLE GIANT Pretentious (1977 UK 'spaceship' label 14-track double LP, a fantastic career-spanning overview including the memorable favourites Knots & An Inmates Lullaby. The gatefold picture sleeve [VG] has served its purpose well & shows some ring wear scuffing whilst the vinyl discs remain in Excellent condition with few signs of play)
- Gentle Giant - Acquiring The Taste - 1st - VG - UK - vinyl LP - £195.00, $239.85, €220.35 (New Item) (arrived 26-Jan-2023 17:08)on March 24, 2023 at 12:45 pm
GENTLE GIANT Acquiring The Taste (1971 first UK issue 8-track vinyl LP on the Vertigo 'swirl' label. This album took the band into more experimental & darker areas but is still their own recognisable sound - a rich blend of hard rock & orchestration - with hints of influences from King Crimson & Van Der Graaf Generator, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with the poly lined 'swirl' die-cut inner. The sleeve displays some minor general wear with some edge & corner scuffing, and hassome strange blank ink marks on the back, but still pretty damn good considering it was never laminated. The labels have a few light spindle marks and light signs of age, whilst the vinyl has only a few light signs of play. Overall a Very Good example, making an ideal play copy)

GENTLE GIANT In A Glass House (Rare 1973 UK white label test pressing for the 6-track LP. With plain labels, housed in a title-stamped plain die-cut paper sleeve. The vinyl shows minimal wear, with a nice clear sheen. A great collectable for arguably Gentle Giant's finest record WWA002)

GENTLE GIANT In A Glass House (1973 UK first press 6-track LP on the black & silver WWA label [this album did not come out on the Vertigo swirl label in the UK], for many their finest record. Comes housed in a striking die-cut textured sleeve complete with PVC window, art print card insert. Because the textured sleeves were never laminated they were prone to storage wear with age, however this one has suffered only minor shelfwear and is overall in fantastic condition for its styleandage. The vinyl too is nice & clean & shows only minor cosmetic evidence of light play, a great copy of this Prog rock gem! WWA002)
- Gentle Giant - Free Hand - 1st + Insert - EX - UK - vinyl LP - £35.00, $43.05, €39.55 (New Item) (arrived 26-Jan-2023 15:33)on March 24, 2023 at 12:45 pm
GENTLE GIANT Free Hand (1975 UK green Chrysalis label 7-track vinyl LP, the highest charting album in the US from the UK prog rockers and is regarded by many as the band's peak, picture sleeve. The sleeve has a little shelfwear to the edges and comes complete with the illustrated lyric card insert, whilst the vinyl remains in excellent condition with little sign of play CHR1093)
