Jazz is one of the most influential, timeless and enduring genres in music. The structuring and songwriting styles from jazz has been used in other genres such as rock, metal, hip hop and funk throughout the years. It can range from subtle and relaxing, to eclectic free jazz freakouts and has something for every music fan. We scour collections to find both iconic releases and rare obscurities to give our customers a wide range to choose from.
The three highlights we have picked out below are just the tip of the iceberg from our selection, which can be viewed in full over at eil.com
THELONIOUS MONK TRIOS Monk’s Moods (Original 1961 UK Esquire issue 10-track mono LP, comprised of three separate sessions. The first four numbers were taped on October 15th, 1952 with Monk alongside Gary Mapp [bass] and Art Blakey [drums], thelast four with Max Roach on drums in place of Blakey (‘Blue Monk’ and ‘Just A Gigolo’ recorded two years later), picture sleeve variant. The front laminated flipback sleeve has some light edge/corner wear and some age discolouration to the reverse, the vinyl is an easy EX grade with just very light signs of play).
HAROLD LAND QUINTET The Fox (Rare 1960 UK 6-track deep groove mono LP, a top quality Bop date in a Sonny Rollins-like mould, with backing from the mysterious & greatly under-recorded, Dupree Bolton, plus Elmo Hope on Piano, Herbie Lewis on Bass & Frank Butler on Drums, beautiful fully laminated flipback sleeve. The cover [VG+] has been historically tape reinforced along the bottom flipback & side opening, common practice for Jazz jackets of this vintage; the sleeve is nice & clean & would otherwise grade Excellent. The vinyl has a deep sheen both sides & grades Excellent with only very minor evidence of play. A recommended West Coast gem! LAE12269).
WAYNE SHORTER The Soothsayer (Rare 1979 Japanese first issue limited edition 6-track stereo LP on Blue Note, manufactured by King Records in their ‘World First Appearance’ series of previously unissued material. Originally recorded in 1965, akeyyear for Shorter following his classic albums Ju Ju and Speak No Evil for the label, The Soothsayer was inexplicable shelved but is nonetheless right up there as another must-have, starring James Spaulding, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, RonCarter & Tony Williams. Picture sleeve with Japanese text insert & ‘1800’ obi-strip. The sleeve has only minimal wear whilst the vinyl is in ‘near as new’ condition with very little signs of play. Recommended. GXF-3054).
