What is an audiophile pressing?
Well, in a nut shell, it’s an audio format pressed to help enhance the sound quality, be that on vinyl or Compact Disc.
The idea being the heavier the vinyl pressing, the better. There have been pressings released from 120 up to 200 Gram in weight, usually the 200 Gram will play at 45rpm providing a better audio experience, instead of the standard 33 1/3rpm.
Compact Discs have various different formats, gold was used in the earlier pressing as it supposedly provided a better a clearer sound reproduction.
Mobile Fidelity are known for being one of the leaders in producing vinyl and CDs of an audiophile grade, with the original releases now highly collectable.
We now have Super Audio CDs, SHM-CD providing a high-fidelity-audio, Blu-Spec CDs using Blu-ray technology, along with DVD-Audio using DVD technology, both providing surround sound audio.

T-REX The Slider (2017 UK deleuxe edition 40th Anniversaey 28-track double LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Black Vinyl, comprising the classic 1972 album including the classic singles Telegram Sam & Metal Guru plus ‘Rabbit Fighter [The Alternate Slider]’, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with printed inners. Although not sealed, this example is still in the open hype stickered shrink, therefore remains in a ‘near as new’ condition DEMREC214).
NINA SIMONE Little Girl Blue (Limited Edition 2015 US 11-track Stereo Gold Hybrid SA-CD [Super Audio CD – playable only on SACD players], the stunning debut album by the jazz legend first released by Bethlehem Records in 1959, bringing her instant fame with her hit version of ‘My Baby Just Cares for Me’, expertly remastered. Comes housed in a super jewel box case with replica album artwork booklet CAPJ083SA).
ROD STEWART With THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA You’re In My Heart (2019 UK 15-track double LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl, features Rod Stewart’s “classic vocal tracks” accompanied by new arrangements bythe Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The album also contains new versions of the hit songs “Maggie May”, “It Takes Two” featuring Robbie Williams, and the new song “Stop Loving Her Today. The vinyl is UNPLAYED housed in the gatefold picture sleeve which remains sealed within its hype stickered shrinkwrap).
WARREN ZEVON Excitable Boy (Long out of print 2013 US 9-track ‘Audio Fidelity’ digitally remastered Hybrid SACD [Super Audio CD – playable on all SACD & CD players] with the disc manufactured in Austria, his third studio album originally released in 1978, booklet picture sleeve with an individually numbered die-cut picture card slipcase AFZ166).
URIAH HEEP Live In Moscow (1988 UK Legacy Records limited edition 10-track Direct Metal Mastered audiophile vinyl LP recorded live in Moscow in December 1987, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve wirh a ‘Direct Metal Mastered’ sticker on the front. The sleeve displays just light wear and has a vintage plugging company sticker attached, whilst the vinyl looks barely played LLP-118).
