German hard rock legends Scorpions have surprise released an uplifting new song called ‘Sign of Hope’ that’s directly inspired by the coronavirus pandemic.
Clocking in at just over two minutes, ‘Sign of Hope’ is a rousing rock ballad that references the turbulent goings on in the world, with Klaus Meine singing “What has happened to our life? / I see empty places, empty roads” and “In troubled times we need a friend / We keep on waiting for better times” amidst stripped-back instrumentation.
As the title suggests, ‘Sign of Hope’ is ultimately an uplifting track about optimism and concludes with the lines: “Give me hope / Just a little bit of hope / A little comfort for my soul / And it’s gonna be alright.”
Sharing the track, Scorpions insist that ‘Sign of Hope’ is very different to the hard rocking sounds of their nineteenth studio album, which they’ve been working on recently.
Scorprions said of ‘Sign of Hope’: “We are working on lot’s of hard n’ heavy rockers for our new album these days, but because of the dramatic Covid-19 pandemic we want to give you a little Sign of Hope that came straight from the heart in troubled times.
“Stay healthy and safe … we love you … Scorpions”
Speaking to fan site Scorpions News recently, Klaus Meine said the band already have “a lot of material” for the follow-up to 2015’s ‘Return to Forever’ and they’re primed to continue work in the studio once the coronavirus pandemic is over.
“At the end of the day, whenever we have a chance to go to Los Angeles and join with (producer) Greg Fidelman to really go into production,” Klaus explained.
“Whether he comes over here (to Germany) or we go to Los Angeles, it depends on the whole corona situation. I mean, since this lockdown is so bad for all of us and for the whole world. So, we’re here and Greg’s in L.A., and we are in touch on Skype and FaceTime and all that, and try to make the best out of it and try to move on with the songs.
“But, of course, we all can’t wait for the day when we all can be together, with the whole band in the studio, working with Greg and Hans-Martin (Buff), the engineer… I’m looking forward to that — to go back to normal life and hopefully we all can go back to our work and go back to our daily, our normal life. That’s what’s the most important thing for all of us right now.”
Scorpions ‘Sign of Hope’ lyrics:
Sometimes it’s easy to pretend
The world keeps turning round and round
And while things are going out of hand
I feel my life turns upside down
*
Give me hope
Just a little bit of hope
A little comfort for my soul
And it’s gonna be alright
*
Give me hope
Just a little bit of hope
I know you’re gonna take me home
And love will shine a light
*
In troubled times we need a friend
We keep on waiting for better times
Help me God, here I am
Alone, with all my fears tonight
*
Give me hope
Just a little bit of hope
A little comfort for my soul
And it’s gonna be alright
*
Give me hope
Just a little bit of hope
I know you’re gonna take me home
And love will shine a light
*
What has happened to our life?
I see empty places, empty roads
We say a prayer every night
Just waiting for a sign of hope
*
Give me hope
Just a little bit of hope
A little comfort for my soul
