For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! But we’re here to bring all those quandaries together.

ABBA Abba Gold – Greatest Hits (2014 UK 40th Anniversary ‘Back To Black’ limited edition 19-track double compilation LP pressed on audiophile quality 180 gram Vinyl, featuring the classic collection of their best loved hits; single pocket picture sleeve with printed inners. The sleeve displays some light general wear and the vinyl show only light signs of play, overall an excellent example).
KISS Destroyer (Resurrected) (2012 US limited edition 10-track LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl, originally released in 1976, newly remixed from the original tapes by Bob Ezrin. The vinyl is in BRAND NEW condition housed in the picture sleeve which remains sealed within its hype-stickered original shrinkwrap).
SARAH MCLACHLAN Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (2016 Canadian Limited edition 12-track Double LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl. The third album from the Canadian singer-songwriter originally released in 1994, the first time available on vinyl. Includes Ice Cream, Hold On and Good Enough. This example remains in its orginal hype-stickered shrinkwrap, therefore the gatefold picture sleeve displays minimal wear, whilst the vinyl remains excellent with only light signs of play).
URIAH HEEP Spellbinder Live (2015 limited edition ‘Back on Black’ series 11-track double LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180gram Red Vinyl, recorded live at the Music Hall in Cologne, Germany on 23rd June1994 at the Music Hall, Cologne, Germany. The two vinyl discs are UNPLAYED housed in the gatefold picture sleeve which remains sealed within its hype-stickered shrinkwrap RCV182LP).
SLEEP Dopesmoker (2012 UK Limited Deluxe Edition first Southern Lord double LP reissue of their mighty 2003 album now pressed on 180gram Clear Vinyl, comprising three individual parts of the title track pressed across three sidesof the vinyl while the fourth side contains ‘Holy Mountain’ and ‘Sonic Titan’. Both discs look barely played and come complete card picture inners and a fold-out poster insert, inside the heavy duty gatefold picture sleeve which comes with a hype-stickered polythene outer bag! LORD158) **Limited to 2000 Copies**.
