Joe Satriani has confirmed that his new album Shapeshifting will be released this April.
Satch’s 18th studio album will be released on April 10 to coincide with his previously revealed Shapeshifting European tour, which will get under way in Mainz, Germany, on April 15.
The guitar virtuoso will be joined onstage by bassist Bryan Beller, drummer Kenny Aronoff and keyboardist Rai Thistlethwayte – and along with new material, they’ll also play tracks from albums including Surfing With The Alien and Flying In A Blue Dream.
Satriani has also released the first track from Shapeshifting. Nineteen Eighty is a song that harks back to the period of his first band, the Squares, and to the sounds of that time.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Eddie Van Halen,” Satriani says. “In my mind, he just crystallised that era. The late ‘70s and early ‘80s, he kind of saved rock guitar. So that’s what I would have been doing.”

JOE SATRIANI The Elephants Of Mars (2022 UK/EU limited edition 14-track double album 2-LP pressed on 180-gram Purple Vinyl - the brand new studio album from the world's best-selling rock guitar instrumentalist. The album crackles with an exciting energy, briskly traveling through stylistic roads that feel freshly updated, from the gripping, sci-fi madness of Through A Mother’s Day Darkly, to the isolation felt in a decaying urban landscape, as depicted in Sahara. The general endorphin levels peak in the title track that stampes across your mind, leaving a sonic imprint that doesn’t fade. Gatefold picture slevee with hype sticker, factory sealed)
