JACKIE MCLEAN Destination… Out (Super Rare 1964 US first press 4-track MONO LP on the original ‘New York’ address Blue Note label, with ‘Van Gelder’ stamp & the all important ‘ear’ etching both sides of the run-out. Features Jackie alongside Grachan Moncur III, Bobby Hutcherson, Larry Ridley & Roy Haynes, all performing some of the finest avant-garde bop of the era. Comes housed in the original heavy duty pasted picture sleeve with ‘West 61st’ address & a vintage UK tax import sticker on the back. This is an outstanding one previous owner example. The panels are nice & clean with no seam splits or writing. All print is clearly legible including along the spine. On close inspection, there is just the very lightest evidence of the occasional tiny paper scuff. The cover is Excellent & the heavyweight vinyl too appears Excellent with an incredible deep sheen both sides & barely any play. Recommended BLP4165).
CHARLIE PARKER Charlie Parker On Verve 1946-1954 (Magnificent 1983 Japanese promotional sample 10-LP box set for review ahead of release, featuring all of the JATP jams from this period, all of the stunning “Bird & Strings” sides, his meetingswith Machito’s Cuban orchestra, the 1950 session with Dizzy Gillespie & Thelonious Monk, small-group dates (including a 1951 date with Miles Davis), odd encounters with voices & studio bands, the famous “Jam Blues” with fellow altoists JohnnyHodges & Benny Carter, plus his final recordings, a set of Cole Porter tunes. Comes housed in a deep 12″ picture box with 28-page ‘sessionography’ booklet & obi-strip. The packaging [VG+] has some light age wear with some scuffing to the edges & the vinyl discs are near ‘as new’ 00MJ3268/77).
TUBBY HAYES Late Spot At Scott’s (Rare 1963 UK 5-track mono vinyl LP on the rough textured black & silver Fontana label, recorded live at Ronnie Scott’s Club in May 1962 with Jimmy Deuchar, Gordon Beck, Freddy Logan & Allan Ganley, front laminated flipback picture sleeve.
