Performed by the legendary enterprise of John McLaughlin [guitar], John Surman [reeds], Karl Berger [vibes], Stu Martin [drums] & Dave Holland [bass] and recorded at the end of May 1970 at the Apostolic Studios in New York, ‘Fortune Smiles’ is a jazz fusion LP that sees all five musicians experimenting equally with their outstanding music qualities.

Limited edition 8-track LP of their 1964 album pressed on Audiophile quality 180gram HQ Virgin Vinyl. As soon as the band came back from a long tour in Asia, the Quintet went into their Frankfurt studio to record many of the originals performed on the road. This session offers a splendid mix of Eastern and Western mix, including the title track which is an enticing model piece inspired by a Thai folk dance and ‘Three Jazz Moods’, a jazz adaptation of music by sitarist Ravi Shankar.
