From the BBC.
An 11-second clip of the Beatles’ only live appearance on the Top of the Pops, which was thought to have been be lost, has been unearthed in Mexico.
The silent snippet is all that exists of the Fab Four miming to Paperback Writer on the BBC pop show in 1966.
The original tapes were not kept, but it was recorded by a viewer filming their TV set with an 8mm camera.
The footage was shot by a family in Liverpool and eventually fell into the hands of a collector in Mexico.
The collector contacted Kaleidoscope, a Birmingham-based organisation specialising in locating previously missing TV footage.
“I think if you’re a Beatles fans, it’s the holy grail,” Kaleidoscope’s Chris Perry told BBC entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson.
“People thought it was gone forever because videotape wasn’t kept in 1966. To find it all these years later was stunning.”
The band pre-recorded songs for Top of the Pops on several occasions, but only appeared live once, on 16 June 1966. The performance itself has long-been a talking point for Beatles obsessives.
In 2000, a BBC spokeswoman said : “We don’t know whether or not this particular piece of Top of the Pops history has disappeared forever, but unfortunately there was a time when BBC programmes were not archived as carefully as they are today and some programmes were sadly lost.”
The rediscovered clip will be screened at the BFI in London as part of the Music Believed Wiped programme on 20 April.

THE BEATLES Eskimo Fish Fingers (Super Rare 1964 UK Eskimo Fish Fingers in-store counter display card, with all four individual black & white Beatles portrait cards. This wonderful item was created to advertise a promotional campaign that offered free Beatles photo-cards with any purchase of Eskimo Fish Fingers. The display measures 10.5" x 11.5" and features four portrait images of the band alongside the promotional text, "Your Favourite Beatle Photo Free" and "Choose One Photo With Each Pack of Eskimo Fish Fingers". Included with the display is the complete set of photo cards, measuring 3.5" x 6", each black & white image [well it was the first half of the '60s] includes a facsimile signature and small bio on the reverse - apparently George was once an apprentice electrician and Paul likes Kraft Cheese Slices and girls who can make intelligent conversation! The card display shows some light creasing although nothing excessive and just some very minor discolouration, the postcards show a little age-related wear but have no rips, tears or any other unsightly marks. Whilst many of the postcards do turn up, this feature display is one the finest known examples to survive - ephemera such as this was never available to the public and the short-term transitory nature of this in-store promotional display guarantees its rarity today. A true Beatles collectors' item and a wonderful reminder of a time when the country was firmly in the grip of 'Beatlemania')
