David Gilmour shares video showing all his guitars that are being auctioned

From Louder Sound.

In January this year, David Gilmour revealed he would to sell 120 of his guitars to raise money for his charitable foundation.

He then released a video which showed him discussing some of the instruments while he played some Pink Floyd classics.

He’s now shared a short video showing every guitar that’s going under the hammer at auctioneers Christie’s between June 14 and 19.

Among the instruments up for grabs will be Gilmour’s 1969 Black Stratocaster which he played on albums including The Dark Side Of The MoonWish You Were HereAnimals and The Wall.

Gilmour said: “When you’re young and starting off, there are all sorts of reasons for all sorts of guitars. You’re always looking for a new sound – being disorientated on an instrument often gives you a new inspiration.

“That led me into becoming a bit of a collector – I never quite meant to become a collector of guitars, but that’s the way it panned out.”

He added: “The money that this sale hopefully will raise is going to go into my charitable foundation and will be used to help do some good in this world. If we can do our little bit to help with those larger, global issues, I’ll be a happier person.”

The collection is currently on display at Christie’s in King Street, London – and will be until March 31.

A select number of the guitars will then move to Los Angeles on May 7-11, which will then be followed by a sale preview in New York ahead of the June auction.

PINK FLOYD A Nice Pair - EX (1973 US withdrawn 18-track double LP, repackaging Piper At The Gates & Saucerful Of Secrets. This is the first Winchester issue from December 8, 1973 on yellow & green Harvest labels with perimeter label print around the bottom starting at 8 o'clock. This Virginia pressing is identified via the 'rifle' etching in the run-outs, housed in the withdrawn 'Dr Phang' gatefold sleeve. The nudity on the sleeve caused quite a stir in the US & copies were recalled& redistributed soon after with stickers censoring the offending images. This cover is one of the rare pre-censored editions, complete with the inners which replicate the original album's artwork in tinted green & blue. The cover shows some light edge scuffing and spinewear; the vinyl grades EX with a few faint cosmetic blemishes not upsetting play SABB-11257)

PINK FLOYD '97 Vinyl Collection (Withdrawn 1997 UK limited edition Seven LP box set, incorrectly pressed on 120 Gram Vinyl - these were supposed to be 180 Gram pressings but the inital batch was not made to the required specification. This collector's set comprises the classic albums The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, Relics, Atom Heart Mother, Animals, Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here & The Wall. Each gatefold picture sleeve displays a custom circular sticker on the front to resemble a die-cut & each one is complete with its picture insert & album credit inner, all housed together in a superb die-cut 12" square x 3" deep presentation slipcase. The box shows little of its age & there are various degrees of foxing to some of the inner sleeves, a common occurence with Japanese paper goods over time. The vinyl discs remain in Excellent condition on the whole - Piper At The Gates reveals some light paper hairline marks on the A-side but being one of the earliest Mono re-releases, these are rendered purely cosmetic on its intended mono setting during playback. A superb set SIGMA630)
