JAZZ Vinyl & CDs at eil.com this week includes Miles Davis, Larry Young, Cecil Taylor and more

Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.

Miles Davis – Miles Davis & Horns: Rare 1958 US second issue of the 1956 8-track mono LP, on a black & yellow deep groove ‘fireworks’ label with Bergenfield N.J.’ address both sides & ‘RVG’ etched in the run-outs. Features historic sessions recorded on January 17th 1951 & February 19th 1953 with Sonny Rollins, Bennie Green, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Sonny Truitt & more. The pasted picture sleeve has been reinforced in the past with heavy duty tape around the closed edges, standard procedure for fifties US sleeve jackets to avoid nasty seam splits. This has been done very tastefully & in matching red, not obscuring the fantastic David Stone Martin artwork & with all text clearly legible including along the spine. The panels are nice & clean with no writing & there is a small ‘FS’ stamp to a back corner, possibly for review purposes. The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & grades Excellent with just light evidence of play. A beaut! PRLP7025).

Larry Young – Into Something: Very rare 1964 US 5-track mono deep groove LP on the New York Blue Note label with VAN GELDER & ‘ear’ etched into the runout grooves on both sides, pasted picture sleeve. Young’s debut for Blue Note is a hard-bop delight featuring Grant Green, Elvin Jones and Sam Rivers on tenor saxophone. The sleeve shows some edge scuffing, discolouration to the reverse and a previous owners name written discreetly in the reverse top left hand corner, however, it is free of rips/tears and al text is clearly legible. The vinyl shows some faint hairlines and scuffs [nothing excessive] and grades a strong VG – play testing reveals no great loss in fidelity. With mint copies regualrly topping the £300 mark, here’s your chance to pick up a more than acceptable play copy at an advantageous price

Cecil Taylor – The Complete Candid Recordings Of Cecil Taylor & Buell Neidlinger: Limited Edition 1989 US mail order only Mosaic audiophile SIX LP box set, gathering all the recordings Taylor made at Nola’s Penthouse Sound Studio, NYC for the Candid label between the 12th of October 1960 & January 10th 1961, with Archie Shepp, Steve Lacy, Charles Davis, Roswell Rudd, Clark Terry, Dennis Charles or Billy Higgins & more. Expect any number of previously unreleased & alternate takes remastered with utmost attention to detail. Comes housed in a beautifully presented monochrome 12″ box with a hand numbered LP sized booklet, featuring stunning black & white session photographs & extensive liner notes. The packaging & the vinyl discs appear Near Mint with very little sign of wear & play. Recommended for the adventurous modern jazz listener
