Celebrating The Best Of Record Cover Art & Design From 2018 – Get Your Vote In!

On November 28th 2018 Art Vinyl launches ‘Best Art Vinyl 2018’, its search for the most creative and well-designed record cover of the year, joining an archive of stunning designs from the past fourteen years.

A diverse shortlist of 50 striking record covers from music artists including Young Fathers, Aphex Twin and even original sleeves in 2018 as unusual as the music from Bagpuss, all of which have been drawn up by a panel of music industry design experts.

From the 28th of November, the public will be invited to vote for their three 2018 favourites, online at artvinyl.com .The public votes ultimately decides the overall winner.

This year, to celebrate the best in album cover art, an original installation featuring all the nominations will be on show for 3 months at the Hari Hotel in London. The installation can be seen from January 8th when this year’s Best Art Vinyl Award winner will be announced. In addition to the installation, Best Art Vinyl exhibitions will be on permanent tour around the UK in 2019.

For those that can’t see the nominations in person, the Best Art Vinyl archive featuring over 700 amazing sleeve designs can be enjoyed online. Each year of nominations depicts a snap shot of vinyl artwork from each respective year of the award.

Last year, Best Art Vinyl 2017 saw over 13,000 public votes for the best album art, photography and graphic design in modern music culture. The public’s favourite cover of 2017 was Art Directed by Timothy Saccenti, following on from original drawings by Nick Gazin for US Rap artists Run The Jewels.

Previous winners also include; Dan Hillier’s ‘Falls’ for Royal Blood’s eponymous album and designs for classic rock artists like David Gilmour who have always had a strong association with album art through Pink Floyd and the Hypnosis design team.

Best Art Vinyl founder Andrew Heeps said of this year’s unique Art Prize; “Highlights from this year’s nominations seems to be a return to the bands and artists actually featuring on the record sleeve. This is almost a return to the golden era of vinyl and possibly because the vinyl format has now taken back its visual dominance over the CD on record shop shelves around the country. However if the design trends aren’t so obvious, the sales numbers clearly show the format is back for good”.

Public voting will begin on 28th of November 2018 in participating venues and on www.artvinyl.com. The winners will be announced on 8th January 2018 at The Hari Hotel, Belgravia London accompanied by an installation of winners and shortlisted entries in the window of The Hari.
