For the past 15 years, Baroness have become a powerhouse within modern metal. Much like their Georgia-based brethren, Mastodon, they have broken free from the shackles of underground sludge and doom, allowing melody into their arsenal and reaching heights that were previously unimaginable for a band of their stature.
Things nearly reached an abrupt end following the release of their 2012 double opus, Yellow & Green, when the band were involved in a life-threatening bus accident while on tour in the UK. Rather than grind to a halt, despite scars for life and several member changes, Baroness would pick themselves back up and get back into gear. Primary songwriter, John Dyer Baizley, who is also responsible for the striking artwork that adorns their albums, poured the terror, panic and resounding hope of that fateful accident into their 2015 album, Purple.
They continue to tour to this day, and hopefully a new record is in the works, as world needs more Baroness. We recently picked up an excellent collection of Baroness items, which you can see some of the highlights from below.
Blue Record: Rare 2017 US 12-track double vinyl LP, with gatefold picture sleeve, pressed on electic blue coloured vinyl and limited to just 300 copies excusively for US retailer, Newbury Comics. Originally released in 2009, the second full length from Baroness includes The Sweetest Curse and A Horse Called Golgotha, expanding on their progressive stoner metal even further. Both the sleeve and vinyl on this copy are in spectacular near ‘as new’ condition
Purple: Rare 2015 US 10-track vinyl LP, on 180gram purple vinyl, with gatefold picture sleeve that has been autographed in gold pen by John Dyer Baizley, Peter Adams, Nick Jost and Sebastian Thompson from the band. The fourth full length from their Georgian metal titans, and the first since ther devastating bus crash in 2012. it includes the massive tracks Shock me and Chlorine and Wine. This copy is in spectacular, near ‘as new’ condition, and the vinyl appears unplayed. A fantastic addition to any Baroness collection
Red Album: Very Rare 2008 US 10-track first issue double vinyl LP with picture gatefold picture, picture inners and four panel fold out insert, limited to just 1000 copies on transparent red, etched vinyl on the Georgia-based indie label, Hyperrealist. Debut album from the Savanah sludge metal titans. originally released in 2007 on CD. This pressing is rarely seen on the market, with the subsequent Relapse Records pressings being much more commonplace. The inners have suffered from 1″ seam splits, and the vinyl does have one or two cosmetic marks that do not affect play, however overall this is an excellent condition copy of an incredibly hard to find pressing. Essential for any metal collections.
