Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.
Michael Garrick – Black Marigolds: Rare 1968 UK lemon Argo label 9-track mono LP, featuring Garrick on piano, harpsichord and celeste, Ian Carr, Joe Harriott, Don Rendell, Tony Coe, Dave Green and Trevor Tomkins. Additional drum work andpoetry from Colin Barnes, lending a quirky, decidedly British feel to the whole. Highlights are the Indian raga inspired title track plus modal workout Ursula, the latter compiled on Volume Two of Gilles Peterson’s Impressed With compilation, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve shows light foxing with a little ringwear to the reverse; the spine has a 1cm split to the middle which leaves the text unaffected. The labels have a little foxing, whilst the vinyl itself is Near Mint.
Ornette Coleman – In Concert Lonely Woman Trio ’66 – Quartet ’74: Rare 1980s limited edition Italian-only 11-track 4-vinyl LP box set, live recordings from Copenhagen 1966 and Valenza 1974, picture box with sleevenotes insert. The box shows verylittle wear and the vinyl is Near Mint.
Black Artists Group – In Paris, Aries 1973: Very Rare & Limited 1973 French-only private press 4-track LP – Amazing & Fierce Modern Jazz, the one & only release by the group not dissimilar to Art Ensemble Of Chicago, starring Charles Bobo Shaw,Oliver Lake, Joseph Bowie, Baikida Carroll & Floyd LeFlore, unique laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve is Excellent & shows very little age wear other than a thin 2″ hairline split in the paper’s top edge. The vinyl is exceptionally nice & appears Near Mint with few signs of any play. Thurston Moore, a Free Jazz advocator & vinyl collector himself, gave this one a firm recommendation when it was reissued several years ago…
