Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.
Peter Brotzmann – Machine Gun: Rare 1972 German issue of the extremely rare 1968 3-track LP, a shining example of Free Jazz at its best & seriously coveted for that very reason. The rest of the Octet comprise Sven Johansson on Drums, PeterKowald on Bass, William Breuker on Tenor, Fred Van Hove on Piano, Evan Parker on Tenor, Buschi Niebergall on Bass & Han Bennink on Drums, really operating as a double quartet more than an octet as convention would imply. The picture sleeve [with ‘Behaimstrasse 4’ address on the back] remains off white & is in fantastic Excellent condition, revealing merely the odd small corner pinch. The vinyl is Near Mint. A staggering tour de force!
Gordon Beck – Experiments With Pops: 1968 UK 8-track Stereo vinyl LP on the deep groove red & white Majpr Minor label, featuring a very young John McLaughlin, one of the most creative jazz quartet albums ever recorded in Europe yet still widely overlooked and underappreciated at the time, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve displays just light wear and age discolouration with a small sticker mark on the back, the labels remain clean with just a couple of marks aroundthe spindle hole, and the vinyl remains excellent with only light signs of play. A fantastic example and the first we have ever had.
Harry Beckett – Warm Smiles: Very Rare 1971 UK 5-track LP, recorded at Command Studios in London with the modern British Jazz greats, Frank Ricotti, Mike Osborne, John Taylor, Chris Laurence & John Webb, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve & vinyl appear Near Mint with very few signs of wear or play
