Indian cinema was once just popular within a niche market, but has grown to the point that it is the worlds largest film industry when it comes to production. It has impacted pop culture across the world in many ways, with mainstream music and cinema using elements of the culture.
One of the stand out things about Indian cinema is the music. The vibrant soundtracks add an extra layer to the movies they accompany, and we have plenty in stock now. Below are just a few of the highlights we have in stock, and you can find more titles at eil.com.
Seeta Aur Geeta: 1972 Indian first press 8-track LP on a black & silver Odeon label, featuring the music to the hit Hindi movie, which marked Ramesh Sippy’s first association with the legendary film composer, R.D. Burman. Burman helped usher in a new style of contemporary music in the Indian film scene more than anyone else. The pasted picture sleeve shows some weathering as to be expected, with all text clearly legible & the fantastic artwork is unblemished. Professionally cleaned, the vinyl is a clean VG with multiple hairline scuffs not upsetting play. Prepare yourself for deep, soul-stirring rhythms & composition, with soaring, psychedelic strings, trumpet fanfare, dramatic electronics, ethnic wind instruments, the occasional wah guitar & serious attention to groove!
Talash: Rare 1979 Indian black & silver Odeon label issue of the 1969 8-track LP, a fantastically groovy & jazzy score including a version of the classical number, Tere Naina Talash Karen, for the sensational cabaret dancescene that featured in this classic piece of Indian cinema, for which R.D. Burman’s dad was the music director. The picture sleeve is unique to this release, with all text legible & the panels are fully intact despite a few edge splits. Professionally cleaned, the vinyl grades VG- with multiple hairline scuffs not upsetting play.
Dream Girl: Rare 1977 Indian 6-track LP on a black & white ‘Nipper’ stamp label, featuring Laxmikant & Pyarelal’s dreamlike score to the Hindi film starring the beautiful Hema Malini in the lead role, wonderful gatefold picture sleeve with full colour spread inside featuring a still from the movie. The cover shows some ring wear & weathering (tape repair to one of the top edges) with the colours still rich & vivid & all text legible. Professionally cleaned, thevinyl grades EX/EX- with just a few faint paper hairline scuffs not affecting play.
