JAZZ Vinyl & CDs at eil.com this week includes Coleman Hawkins, Yuji Ohno, Sonny Clark, and more

Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.

Coleman Hawkins – Hawk Eyes: Rare 1961 UK original 5-track mono LP, recorded in 1959 with Charlie Shavers, Tiny Grimes, Ray Bryant, George Duvivier & Osie Johnson all proving to be highly compatible, housed in one of Esquire’s inventive sleeve design variants and pressed on superior heavyweight vinyl. This copy originates from the private collection of a former staff member for Dobells record shop in Charing Cross. The front laminated flipback sleeve has small areas of laminate lift/loss in the bottom corners, with a small amount of print loss to the bottom right corner, whilst on the reverse the top & bottom flipbacks are missing a small portion of paper which overlaps the vertical laminated area, however all in all the cover remains clear & striking. The vinyl shows just the odd light cosmetic mark here or there and the pristine nature of the labels suggest that it has seen very little play at all.

Yuji Ohno – The Inugami Clan [Inugumi No Ichizoku]: 1976 Japanese 13-track vinyl LP, the soundtrack to the 1976 dark drama, now a highly sought after item thanks to its jazz funk breaks, included in the Japanese rare groove bible ‘Wamono’ with the tracks Onnen, Kamen and Juunan No Chi listed as standout tracks, picture sleeve complete with insert and obi-strip. The sleeve shows minimal wear and the vinyl is Near Mint. A fantastic copy of an album which is disappearing in Japan thanksto overseas DJs taking them away.

Sonny Clark – Sonny Clark Trio, Vol.3: 1985 Japanese-only limited edition 7-track stereo promo sample vinyl LP released as part of Toshiba EMI’s ‘The Other Side Of BLP 1500’ series, containing a previously unreleased session from 7th December 1958. Includes an Alternate Master of ‘Blues In The Night’ with Sonny backed by Paul Chambers [bass] and Wes Landers [drums]. Housed in a glossy back pasted picture sleeve with liner notes printed on the reverse and comes complete with the 4-page Japanese / catalogue booklet and ‘The Other Side Of Blue Note Series 1500’ obi-strip. There is some foxing and a little age yellowing to the sleeve however, the vinyl remains in MINT condition!
