Art Pepper – Meets The Rhythm Section: Classic 1957 first UK issue 9-track mono LP where Art ‘borrows’ the incredible rhythm section of Miles Davis – At the time, even Miles said; ‘I have the best rhythm section in the world’ – Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass & Philly Joe Jones on drums. This is an advance issue with rough textured lime green stock labels & a ‘Sample Copy – Not For Sale’ stamp on the Side 2 label for review before release. This copy originates from the private collection of a former staff member for Dobells record shop in Charing Cross. The laminated flipback picture sleeve shows just a little corner creasing & scuffing with all text clear & the colours look rich & vivid. The heavyweight vinyl is clean & grades Excellent with minimal signs of play.
Thelonisous Monk – More Genius Of Thelonious Monk: Rare limited edition 1985 Japanese-only 12-track mono vinyl LP compilation, part of the ‘The Other Side Of BLP 1500’ series of Blue Note rarities and re-releases issued by Toshiba EMI, Japan in the eighties. Contains ‘Alternate Masters’ of Monk’s legendary first recorded session for the label in 1947 plus two takes of ‘Sixteen’ from 1952. Unique titled picture sleeve with Japanese/catalogue booklet and series obi – all MINT.
Keith Jarrett – Sun Bear Concerts Piano Solo: Rare 1978 Japanese ECM/Trio Records label 10-LP vinyl box set recorded in 1976 in the five Japanese cities: Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Sapporo, and features an incredible repository of pianistic exploits from the peak of Jarrett’s early period. Housed in a stunning bound booklet with built-in sleeves for the vinyl and built-in 20-page booklet featuring lots of superb black & photos, all housed in a great 12½” x 12½” x 2″ outer slipcase with original belly band style picture obi-strip.
John Coltrane Quintet – Second Night In Tokyo: Limited Edition 1977 Japanese-only 7-track mono triple LP box set, featuring the entire concert from 11th July 1966 at the Sankei Hall in Tokyo, starring Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, Jimmy Garrison & Rashied Ali, plus an eleven minute interview with Trane. This rare collector’s set is housed in a 12″ square box & comes complete with a twelve page illustrated booklet, an English/Japanese insert with concert notes by David Wald, a limited fold-out colour poster & a picture obi-strip. The poster has some foxing on the plain back panels, a natural occurence with Japanese paper goods over time, & has never been displayed, it remains otherwise folded from new. The packaging is Excellent, with just a light horizontal fold in the middle of the obi & some mild foxing on the inside which is also visible on the labels. The vinyl discs themselves appears near mint.
