Ono is looking to gather between 6,000 and 10,000 people in Central Park, New York on October 6
Yoko Ono is hoping to gather between 6,000 and 10,000 people in New York’s Central Park on October 6, in order to form the world’s largest human peace sign.
The event is in memory of her husband of eleven years John Lennon, who would have celebrated his 75th birthday a few days later on October 9, and while it will be free, Ono will be taking donations towards the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, a non-profit that aims to give students audio recording experience and options.
Tickets will be available for up to 10,000 on Eventbrite, with the event scheduled to last approximately three hours for early arrivals, starting at 10am, with registration closing at 12am, subject to space.
Ono has tweeted in reference to the event since the announcement was made, saying: “You don’t have to do much/ Power works in mysterious ways. Visualize the domino effect. And just start thinking PEACE,” before adding “Be playful. Dance with your mind and body. It’s such fun that ‘They’ might start to dance with us, too.”
The tickets page reveals a few more details about the specifics of the plan:
“This is a free, all ages event. Registration does not guarantee entry. Entry is available for the first 10,000 registrants on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive at 10:00am to secure your place in the Largest human peace sign! On-site registration and peace sign placement will close promptly at 12:00pm. The aerial photograph capturing this historic event will take place at 12:30pm.”
Lennon died in December 1980, aged 40, after being shot five times in the back by Mark David Chapman outside his home in the Dakota Building, in front of Central Park.
