Jazz has played a vital part in the history of music since it began, and even if you don’t know it, it has probably influenced the music you listen to today. From the greats such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie to the underrated genius of Duke Pearson and Sam Rivers, we pride ourselves on having a fine selection of jazz records for our customers.
We’ve selected a few highlights and latest arrivals below, and the full catalogue can be found at eil.com
GALLIARD Strange Pleasure (Extremely rare 1970 first UK issue 10-track stereo vinyl LP on the orange & silver Deram Nova label, a wonderful progressive rock / jazz effort by this obscure British group that is now highly regarded by collectors. The front laminated picture sleeve has the pinched spine and mono / stereo hole indicator on the back with blue-for-stereo company inner featuring a couple of rare press clippings attached. This is a one previous owner copy from an archive collection of late sixties, early seventies rarities. The sleeve is tape reinforced along the bottom but there is no split. The condition is otherwise astonishing. The sleeve is near mint and the vinyl looks barely touched SDN4).
TUBBY HAYES QUINTET …After Lights Out (Impossibly rare 1957 UK 6-track mono vinyl LP, on the highly collectable Tempo label, recorded in London on 17th July 1956 with Dickie Hawdon, Harry South, Pete Elderfield and Bill Eyden – a crucial piece of British jazz history, issued in the fully laminated flipback picture sleeve TAP6. Please see ‘more info’ for condition details…).
MILFORD GRAVES & DON PULLEN Nommo (Very rare original 1967 US three-part private press vinyl LP on a dark blue & yellow SRP label, the second volume of the ‘In Concert at Yale University’ recording and one of America’s first DIY Free Jazz records. This collector’s example was obtained from Jazz Journal’s Barry McRae’s personal collection. As a British writer for Jazz Journal for many years, ‘Bazzer The Jazzer’, as he was to become affectionately known, built up a massive collection of jazz vinyl of all kinds. Many were review copies, others signed gifts from musicians, or promo copies, in addition to the enormous number of records he bought for himself over the years. The heavyweight pasted picture sleeve even includes the super rare two page document, one A4 page for Graves and one page for Pullen that present SRP Records and describe the music. See ‘more info’ for condition details… LP-290).
