As we continue to bring you some of our personal favourite items that we have in stock, today’s staff recommendation comes one of the company directors, Cathryn, who has chosen a Pet Shop Boys classic:
“For me is this one of the key tracks of the period just before Esprit Mail Order started ‘happening’. The midst of 80’s pop, the 12”, the 10min+ remixes, ‘80s hair, hatchbacks and iffy fashion. And along came West End Girls.
“A time when everything was about the 12” (ok so this one is a 10”), following a band and then starting to collect everything they did. It took a very long time for me to find a 10”, and even then finding it with the intact sticker was the only one to have. Everyone wanted it … just like the picture disc which didn’t really exist although we had a bit of fun letting collectors think it did for a time. A time of freedom, of history making pop, few responsibilities and youth.
“Anyway, you can get your hands on this one now – they come and they go but “West End Girls” as a track endures. Listen to the 2020 ‘lockdown’ version below. A modern twist on a classic”
PET SHOP BOYS West End Girls (Rare 1986 UK limited edition 10″ vinyl single with picture labels, housed in a circular fold-out picture sleeve with custom printed yellow ‘collectors edition’ sticker, which has been pealed and re-attached. The sleeve has some light wear & creasing whilst the vinyl remains excellent with only a little light signs of play 10R6115).
