From its inception in New Orleans around the early 20th century, jazz has been considered one of the most important forms of musical expression. It was seen as ‘America’s classical music’, and has transitioned from the early brass era, through swing and cool jazz, to modal greats and jazz-rock fusion. The spirit of jazz can be heard today in almost every form of music hip hop to metal and will continue to do so until the end of time.
