39 years ago today, Queen filmed the infamous video for their Bicycle Race single at Wimbledon stadium.
The video featured 65 nude women, all of whom were professional models, engaging in a bicycle race around the stadium. It was shot by Denis De Valiance for the single from the Queen’s Jazz album, which was released earlier in 1978.
However, the video would end up being banned in several countries due to it’s content, with an edited version being released that used special effects to cover the naked women. An interesting fact about the video is that Queen had rented several dozen bicycles for the video shoot, but when the company that supplied them found out what they had been used for, they requested that the band purchase all of the seats.
The single itself would be released on October 13 as double A-side with Fat Bottomed Girls, and reached the top thirty on both sides of the Atlantic.
