New Audiophile Christmas Gift Collectable ideas This Week at eil.com, includes Paul Weller, Rolling Stones, The Weavers & more

What is an audiophile pressing?

Well, in a nutshell, it’s an audio format pressed to help enhance the sound quality, be that on vinyl or Compact Disc.

The idea being the heavier the vinyl pressing, the better. There have been pressings released from 120 up to 200 Gram in weight, usually the 200 Gram will play at 45rpm providing a better audio experience, instead of the standard 33 1/3rpm.

Compact Discs have various different formats, gold was used in the earlier pressing as it supposedly provided a better a clearer sound reproduction.

Mobile Fidelity are known for being one of the leaders in producing vinyl and CDs of an audiophile grade, with the original releases now highly collectable.

We now have Super Audio CDs, SHM-CD providing a high-fidelity-audio, Blu-Spec CDs using Blu-ray technology, along with DVD-Audio using DVD technology, both providing surround sound audio.

Here at eil.com we have a nice range of Audiophile pressings to suit everyone’s taste and pockets.

ROLLING STONES Sticky Fingers (2020 UK/EU limited edition 10-track LP Half-Speed Mastered at Abbey Road Studios and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. Originally released in 1971, Sticky Fingers blends ragged blues, Southern soul, and early ’70s country-rock with a louche, narcotic haze. From the swagger of “Brown Sugar” and “Bitch” to the mournful ache of “Moonlight Mile” and “I Got The Blues,” and the unsettling “Sister Morphine,” the album reflects a band pushing sonic boundaries while slipping deeper into personal chaos. Mick Taylor’s expressive lead guitar work and Paul Buckmaster’s haunting string arrangements add vital texture, while Mick Jagger and Keith Richards explore lyrical terrain both raw and decadent. A benchmark of rock history, this audiophile quality pressing restores the grit and elegance of the Stones’ darkest, most emotionally rich album and brings new life to one of their most vital recordings. Housed inside the iconic Andy Warhol-designed picture sleeve, with hype sticker & factory sealed. Recommended listening!)
THE STOOGES The Stooges (Original Master Recording limited edition 8-track double album 2-LP, a Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab release mastered by Krieg Wunderlich on the Gain 2 Ultra Analog System, specially plated andpressed on180-gram High Definition Vinyl, cut at 45RPM. Few albums inspired the reactions and registered the impact of the Stooges’ primordial self-titled debut. To a majority of listeners who encountered it shortly after it was released the same weekWoodstock happened in 1969, the record seemingly came from another planet despite the fact its songs reflect the band’s Detroit surroundings and youthful malaise. Originally deemed by Rolling Stone “loud, boring, tasteless, unimaginative and childish” — sentiments shared by many critics — only later to be included on the magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time register, The Stooges established the template for myriad styles and the snarling attitude that would be associated with the still-years-away punk scene. Time further proved the band’s stomping, clattering rock ‘n’ roll way ahead of the curve given the work is now cited on endless “Best Album” lists. Housed inside a deluxe gatefold picture sleeve with original cover artwork, gold-foil numbered and factory sealed. Recommended)
THE WEAVERS Reunion At Carnegie Hall 1963 (2004 US Classic Record limited edition 15-track Five Single-Sided LP box set, pressed on 45rpm 180gram Vinyl. Recorded in 1963 on location at Carnegie Hall, 2nd & 3rd May at two historic concerts celebrating the 15th anniversary of The Weavers. Recording with an Ampex 300 recorder and Scotch 201 tape, 3 track 15 ips, using 3 microphones, Schoeps M-221B/26 Condensers, remastered from the original master tapes. Each LP in their own plain die-cut card sleeve with a double sided insert featuring artwork and details about the recordings, all housed in a white card box with replica ‘Vanguard’ record label sticker and picture tracklisting sticker attached. The box has very light wear and the vinyl remains in near mint condition).
VAN HALEN Diver Down (UltraDisc One-Step limited edition double album 2-LP at 45RPM, an ultra-hi-fi reference recording by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. Pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing and housed in a deluxe slipcase with foil-stampedjackets and faithfully reproduced artwork, this edition presents Diver Down as a richly immersive experience. Ted Templeman’s production emerges with striking balance and immediacy, letting the band’s signature traits – rhythmic bite, tonal character, and high-octane cohesion – come through with heightened clarity. Across the album, Van Halen revel in the loose, playful diversity that defines Diver Down. From the jubilant chart-rising take on Roy Orbison’s “(Oh) Pretty Woman” to the kinetic cover of “Dancing in the Street” and the band’s charged twist on The Kinks’ “Where Have All the Good Times Gone!”, the set showcases a group fully in command of its instincts, humour, and technical creativity. Eddie Van Halen’s innovative guitar textures – from the menacing atmospherics of “Intruder” to the flamenco-tinged precision of “Little Guitars (Intro)” and the volume-knob wizardry of “Cathedral” – further underline the album’s inventive spirit. A premium, definitive presentation of Van Halen’s most carefree and stylistically varied record, this UD1S edition brings renewed energy and scale to a classic that remains full of surprises. Housed inside a deluxe gold-foil embossed slipcase, individually numbered & factory sealed. Recommended).
PAUL WELLER Days Of Speed (2021 UK/EU limited edition 18-track double album 2-LP, originally released in October 2001.
