For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! But we’re here to bring all those quandaries together.

RICKIE LEE JONES Pirates (2009 US exclusive strictly limited edition GAIN 2™ Ultra Analog Half-Speed Mastered 8-track LP pressed on 180gram VIRGIN VINYL, originally released in 1981 as the follow up to her eponymous debut. Housed in a superb individually numbered deluxe gatefold pasted card picture sleeve with fold-out series insert. This copy remains in near mint condition MFSL1-328).
ABBA Gold Greatest Hits (2021 Special Limited Edition UK/EU 19-track double album 2-LP, remastered and pressed on 180-gram Gold Vinyl. First released in 1992 this ever-popular classic album is all killer -no filler, including the hits Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me, Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, Fernando, Super Trouper, Voulez Vous, Waterloo and many more. Housed inside a single-pocket picture sleeve with GOLD VINYL hype sticker, brand new & factory sealed. Essential).
THE LIBERTINES The Libertines (2004 UK limited edition 14-track LP pressed on 180gram Vinyl including the singles Can’t Stand Me Now and What Became Of The Likely Lads, housed in an individually numbered gatefold picture sleeve complete with laminated lyric insert and printed inner sleeve. The sleeve shows very little wear and the vinyl has a couple of very light paper surface scuffs but remains in otherwise excellent condition RTRADLPX166).
YES Fragile (2006 US limited edition 9-track 24-karat GOLD audiophile ‘Ultradisc II’ CD album – the legendary progsters’ influential 4th longplayer, originally released in November 1971 and including the single’Roundabout’ plus Long Distance Runaround and the incredible Heart Of The Sunrise.
