What is an audiophile pressing?
Well, in a nutshell, it’s an audio format pressed to help enhance the sound quality, be that on vinyl or Compact Disc.
The idea being the heavier the vinyl pressing, the better. There have been pressings released from 120 up to 200 Gram in weight, usually the 200 Gram will play at 45rpm providing a better audio experience, instead of the standard 33 1/3rpm.
Compact Discs have various different formats, gold was used in the earlier pressing as it supposedly provided a better a clearer sound reproduction.
Mobile Fidelity are known for being one of the leaders in producing vinyl and CDs of an audiophile grade, with the original releases now highly collectable.
We now have Super Audio CDs, SHM-CD providing a high-fidelity-audio, Blu-Spec CDs using Blu-ray technology, along with DVD-Audio using DVD technology, both providing surround sound audio.

THE POLICE Ghost In The Machine (2016 UK/EU limited edition 11-track LP Half Speed Mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell. Their classic 1981 album now pressed on audiophile quality 180-gram vinyl. Picture sleeve with Abbey Road certificate and series obi. Although not sealed, this example remains in a ‘near as new’ condition ARHSLP005)
QUEEN Greatest Hits In Japan (Rare 2020 Japanese promo sample issue of the limited edition 12-track SHM-CD compilation album, issued to radio stations and reviewers ahead of the actual release date. Comprising a collection of their tracks as selected exclusively by their Japanese fans, including Somebody To Love, Teo Torriatte [Let UsCling Together], TheShow Must Go On, Bohemian Rhapsody, Keep Yourself Alive and more. This edition also includes a bonus NTSC All Region DVD featuring videos for the same songs including Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together) recorded live at the Seibu Stadium in Tokyo on the 3rd Novermber 1982, and The March Of The Black Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on the 24th December 1975; with a custom stamped inner rim on each disc, housed in a thin double jewel case with picture sleeve, back inlay and promo stickered obi-strip UICY-79059).
THE BAND Music From Big Pink: 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe (Fantastic 2018 limited edition remastered multi-format box set issue of the classic 1968 LP, now expanded to an Audiophile double LP playing at 45RPM & pressed on 180gm vinyl with abonus 7″ of ‘The Weight’, a Blu-Ray audio disc of high resolution & surround mixes, a CD of the album with six bonus tracks, a booklet & collectable lithographs by Elliot Landy, all housed in a superb picture box. This copy has remained factorysealed from new & is therefore still mint & unplayed).
THE WHO Exciting The Who (Out of print 2021 Japanese exclusive limited edition 10-track Mono LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl. Originally released in 1968, this Japan-only compilation features tracks from ’66 & ’67, including Waltz For A Pig [actually by the Graham Bond Organization], their cover of the Stones’ Under My Thumb [released in protest at Mick & Keef’s proposed jail sentences in 1967!] and more. Housed in a replica high gloss scalloped flipback card picture sleeve with a pinched spine, reproduction of the original lyric sheet and obi-strip. The vinyl is housed in a separate die-cut card sleeve with a barcoded information sticker attached. This remains in a brand-new, shop bought condition, still in the un-opened re-sealable bag!
