Gentle Giant have released previously unseen and unedited footage of the band being interviewed backstage at the Gusman Cultural Center in Miami in June 1980, which you can watch below.
“It amazes me that there are still things to be discovered,”e says Noah Shulman, son of Derek, and the man who put together the Proclamation fan video earlier this year that saw the surviving members of the band reunite (virtually) for the first time since 1980.
Jack Skelly who compiled Gentle Giant’s Tour History had chronicled the events of that evening:
“Interestingly, Derek introduced the song Knots to the crowd as a “psychedelic” song. One fan claims Giant looked ill during this concert, even remembering John Weathers repeatedly throwing up into a bucket on stage during the show. As it turns out, the fan was correct. The band had eaten some bad burgers beforehand, jokingly described by Derek in a backstage press interview after the gig, as “Kentucky Fried Rat”. This also explains why Derek frequently left the stage when he was not singing. The food poisoning hit the players when the opening act, a group called Hoochie, took the stage, and continued through all of Giant’s set. Gary recalls this difficult gig, but says they still managed to put on a good show, even though they played without their own lighting and sound rig. This equipment was, unfortunately, on its way to Houston, the site of the following night’s show.”

GENTLE GIANT Acquiring The Taste (1971 first UK issue 8-track vinyl LP on the Vertigo 'swirl' label. This album took the band into more experimental & darker areas but is still their own recognisable sound - a rich blend of hard rock & orchestration - with hints of influences from King Crimson & Van Der Graaf Generator, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with the poly lined 'swirl' die-cut inner. The sleeve displays some minor general wear with some edge & corner scuffing, and hassome strange blank ink marks on the back, but still pretty damn good considering it was never laminated. The labels have a few light spindle marks and light signs of age, whilst the vinyl has only a few light signs of play. Overall a Very Good example, making an ideal play copy)

The sleeve displays just some minor general wear with minimal discolouring & corner or edge wear, the spine print is clearly legible. The labels have a few spindle marks whilst the vinyl remains clean with only a few light surface scuffs & hairlines not affecting play. Overall this is a VeryGood+ example of this progressive masterpiece!)

GENTLE GIANT Gentle Giant (Mid 70s UK second issue of the debut 1970 7-track LP on the 'spaceship' Vertigo label, the innovative first album from the Shulman brothers & co, including the big-riff laden opener, Giant, & staple, longterm live set regulars, Funny Ways & Isn't It Quiet And Cold, featuring the late, first drummer Martin Smith, housed in the brilliant 'Giant with band in hands' gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a little light general wear whilst the vinyl displays faint hairlines, which have no real impact on play)
