For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! Featuring live performances from around the World,including the entire ‘Live Aid’ setlist performance from Fire Fight Australia. THE RAMONES It’s Alive II (Record Store Day 2020 UK/EU limited edition and individually numbered 27-track Three Sided 2-LP set pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl with etching onthe four side. Featuring a concert recorded Live at Victoria Hall in Stoke-On-Trent on the 29th Decemer 197, prior to the original ‘It’s Alive’ New Years’ Eve live performancefrom the Rainbow Theatre on the 31st of the same month, and has beenmixed by the original Ramones engineer and producer Ed Stasium. THE BEATLES Abbey Road (Limited Edition 1978 Japanese half-speed mastered audiophile issue of the 1969 16-track LP, manufactured by Toshiba-EMI in the ‘Pro-Use’ series – arguably the best sounding pressing of Abbey Road on record! Iconic picture sleeve complete with fold-out Japanese/lyric insert & obi-strip. The sleeve displays just a little light general wear & only light signs of age, the labels have some light foxing, whilst the vinyl has minimal signs of play, a really nice example EALF-97001).
ROLLING STONES Goats Head Soup (2020 UK limited Super Deluxe Edition 4-LP box set, pressed on Half Speed Mastered 180 Gram Black Vinyl. Restored to its full glory, and features the new stereo album mix, sourced from the original session files, mastered at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. Featuring the three previously unreleased tracks, Scarlet, All The Rage & Criss Cross, along with Rarities & Alternative mixes, including The Brussels Affair, recorded live at the Forest National Arena in October 1973. Each LP in their own picture sleeve with printed inners, housed in 12″ sized material wrapped box. The vinyl is UNPLAYED and remains factory sealed from new, still in the brown card mailer).
PARADISE LOST Live At Rockpalast (Record Store Day 2020 UK/EU limited edition ‘Music On Vinyl’ 14-track 2-LP set pressed on Audiophile quality 180 Gram Heavyweight White Vinyl. Available on vinyl for the first time, originally released in 2019, recorded at the Bizarre Festival in Germany, 19th August 1995.
