For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! But we’re here to bring all those quandaries together.

SKUNK ANANSIE Paranoid & Sunburnt (2008 UK Strictly Limited Edition Half Speed Direct Metal Mastered 11-track double LP pressed on 200gram Virgin Vinyl from the original master tapes [resulting in a better detail resolution and lower noise ratio], their 1995 debut studio album including the singles Selling Jesus, I Can Dream, Charity and Weak. The two vinyl discs remain in barely played condition with their individual lyric printed inners and comes housed in the individually numbered picture sleeve complete with the custom-stickered clear PVC outer jacket TPLP55DMM)

QUEEN Queen (2015 German pressed European limited edition 10-track Half-Speed Mastered LP issue of their 1973 debut album pressed on Audiophile quality 180 gram Vinyl, including the single Keep Yourself Alive. Complete with the lyric printed inner, the picture sleeve remains sealed and the vinyl is ‘as new’ UNPLAYED).

DAVID BOWIE Hunky Dory (2015 UK limited edition remastered audiophile issue of the classic 1971 11-track LP pressed on 180 gram Vinyl, his fourth studio album including the singles Changes and Life On Mars?. Complete with the lyric printed insert, the picture sleeve retains its opened custom-stickered shrinkwrap and the vinyl looks barely played DB69733).

BOB DYLAN Live 1966, The Royal Albert Hall Concert [The Bootleg Series Volume 4] (2006 US exclusive limited edition 15-track 2-LP set pressed on 200gram Quiex Super Vinyl, taken from the original mix down masters & transferred to lacquer on Classic’s ‘all tube’ analog cutting system. One of the most famous bootlegs [erroneously credited as an Albert Hall recording, but was in fact made in Manchester!] now in pristine sound, capturing Dylan in his transition from folk singertorock legend! Each LP is in their own picture sleeve and comes with a 40-page illustrated booklet, all housed in a card picture box which has some minor wear on the back and on the bottom edges, all contents are immaculate).

KEITH RICHARDS Talk Is Cheap (2019 UK Limited ‘Indie Exclusive’ 30th Anniversary Edition 10-track remastered LP, the 1988 debut solo album from the Rolling Stones’ guitarist, now pressed on 180 Gram Red Vinyl, including the singles Take It So Hard, Struggle and You Don’t Move Me. The vinyl is BRAND NEW & UNPLAYED housed in the picture sleeve which remains sealed within the hype-stickered shrinkwrap BMGCAT338CLP)
