The UK indie scene in the early ‘90s was one of the most popular periods of music in the last 30 years. Even now it continues to influence and inspire a new generation of indie bands from all over the world. Of course, there’s nothing quite like the original, and Teenage Fanclub are one of the bands that helped spearhead the movement with their hook-driven indie pop songs and relatable lyrical narrative.
We recently acquired a superb collection of Teenage Fanclub items, feature first presses of their classic albums such as The King and Bandwagonesque, incredibly hard to find test pressings, limited edition singles, and more.
Below are a few highlights from the collection, and with more being added daily be sure to keep an eye on eil.com for the latest arrivals.
TEENAGE FANCLUB Howdy! (Rare 2000 UK 12-track vinyl LP, with gatefold picture sleeve. The only major label release for the band following the demise of Creation, and includes the single I Need Direction and Dumb Dumb Dumb. The band were promoted as a three piece around this time due to drummer Paul Quinn leaving the band after recording his parts, and Francis MacDonald returning to the fold once the album had been released. The sleeve shows some minor edgewear from storage over theyears, and the vinyl itself displaying only one or two inaudible hairline surface marks to show for its 20 years in the wild. This copy comes with a period 7″x5″ promotional Columbia Records photograph of the band, that has been SIGNED by Gerard Love, Raymond McGinley, and Norman Blake. A fantastic piece of Teenage Fanclub history, and a highly underrated record from their catalogue).
TEENAGE FANCLUB A Catholoic Education (Very Rare 1990 UK 11-track white label test pressing of the debut LP from the Scottish Indie band on the Paperhouse label, with wraparound proof sleeve. Includes the tracks Heavy Metal and Everything Flows. The sleeve shows on only the lightest of edgewear from storage, while the vinyl itself has only one or two inaudible paper scuffs to show for 30 years in the wild, and remains in superb condition. This is the first time we have seen a test pressing of this album, and is unlikely to be repeated. A must have for Teenage Fanclub fans and collectors of ’90s indie PAPERLP004).
TEENAGE FANCLUB Four Thousand Seven Hundred And Sixty-Six Seconds (Very rare 2002 UK 21-track 2-LP album of the band’s greatest hits. Featuring tracks from their debut album A Catholic Education released in 1990 to the year 2000 Howdy! album.Aside from an unobtrusive mark on the sleeve where a sticker has been removed, bot the sleeve and vinyl on this copy remain in spectacular, near ‘as new’ condition. The first copy of this hard to find compilation we have seen in nearly 10 years).
