This week we have a staff recommendation from… me! My name is Glen and I’m buyer here at eil.com, and have recently rediscovered my love for Sigur Ros – and post-rock in general – on the back of a picking up a recent collection. My recommendation for you is Takk.
“Takk arrived at a time when I was only interested in either the most aggressive music possible, or whatever emo band was cool at the time (I was 22, ok…) but from the moment I heard Hoppipolla I needed to know more about this glorious music I was hearing.
“It was unlike anything else I had ever heard. The lyrics were in their Sigur Ros’ own dialect, but I didn’t that to connect to it as it was just another layer of instrumentation among sweeping keys, bowed guitars, and uplifting string sections. It often gets called their ‘rock’ album, and while it is a far cry from a Motley Crue record, it did introduce me to the magic of the post rock genre
“Sigur Ros get a lot of hype, and a lot of it came off the back of Takk, but 15 years on from it, every positive word that was written about it was is absolutely justified.”
