For anyone who collects vinyl, we know that some of the most highly wanted pressings tend to be those classed as Audiophile.
Those with the best hi-fi equipment will always want the best quality sounding pressing available, be that high quality 180 gram or heavier vinyl, CD’s, Super Audio CD’s, SHM-CD’s, DVD-Audio Discs and more, from companies like DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, Nexus, Simply Vinyl or Nimbus.
AUDIOPHILE VINYL
‘True Fidelity’ vinyl is perhaps the ultimate format for the audiophile. Issues are taken from original master tapes for pure ‘as intended sound’, and production techniques such as half-speed mastering, quadraphonic sound and special formulated virgin vinyl are common in most audiophile releases.
There are many labels who issue audiophile recordings, but only a few specialize in it. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) have a variety of series including ‘Original Master Recordings’
[OMR] and ‘Ultra High-Quality Recordings’ [UHQR]. Other important audiophile labels include Nautilus, Direct-Disk Labs, Sheffield Lab and Wilson Audio.
AUDIOPHILE COMPACT DISCS
With the development of the compact disc so typically came the development of its audiophile counterpart. Again, there are specialist labels, there are varying techniques (gold discs, layered discs, high-density discs) and there are varying opinions on the listening pleasure! But we’re here to bring all those quandaries together.

ROLLING STONES Their Satanic Majesties Request (2017 UK limited edition Double LP & Double SACD (Super Audio CD – playable on all SACD and CD players) set. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the album, this special editionset contains boththe Stereo & Mono versions of every song, all newly remastered by Bob Ludwig. All housed within a spectacular fold-out gatefold picture sleeve featuring a reproduction of Michael Cooper’s original 3D lenticular image of theband in peak psychedelic regalia, individually hand-numbered on the reverse. Although not sealed, this example remains in a really nice ‘near as new’ condition, and as an added bonus includes an unused red & white turntable slipmat!).
JIMI HENDRIX Winterland (Authorized Hendrix Family Edition 2011 US limited edition EIGHT LP audiophile box set pressed on 180gram Vinyl by RTI, featuring never before released tracks from his legendary run at Winterland in October 1968, with each disc in its own deluxe picture sleeve. This collector’s set comes complete with a full size twenty four page booklet. All contents are housed in an individually numbered hype stickered heavyweight picture box. Amazingly, thiscopy has remained sealed and is in MINT condition).
SMASHING PUMPKINS Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness (2012 US Deluxe Edition 28-track 4-LP set pressed on 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl featuring the Smashing Pumpkins’ masterpiece album remastered for the first time & spread over eightsides [4LPs] to provide the optimum sound. The four LPs are housed in individual artwork picture sleeves & a 12″ x 12″ deluxe rigid slipcase with varnished & embossed finish, accompanied by two books containing personal notes, lyrics & new collageartwork. The outer box has a minor indentation at the top and crease, still includes the tracklisting card inside which has been folded and stored inside, whiilst the contents remain in a really nice condition and the vinyl looks barely played, a really nice example).
ABBA Arrival -(2016 UK 40th Anniversary Half-Speed Remastered double LP issue of the 1976 10-track album pressed on 180 gram Vinyl, including the classic hits Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You and Money Money Money, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with printed inners, Half Speed Mastering Certificate and wrap-around obi-insert. The sleeve has some light wear mostly to the corners with some light creases, whilst the vinyl shows only light signs of play).
JOHNNY CASH Out Among The Stars (2014 UK limited edition 12-track LP pressed on Audiophile quality 180gram Heavyweight Vinyl, featuring a collection of recently discovered unreleased studio recordings which were originally recorded in Nashville in 1981 & 1984 produced by Billy Sherrill, including duets with June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings along with songs penned by Cash himself. The gatefold picture sleeve comes with the download code voucher and retains its opened hype-stickered shrinkwrap and the vinyl looks barely played

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Star Wars (Limited Edition 2016 UK/EU-pressed 16-track double LP on 180gram Gold Vinyl, featuring John Williams’ classic score from the George Lucas’ 1977 space opera, fully restored from the original master tapes. Comes housed in a deluxe gatefold picture sleeve with album notes insert. The sleeve is Excellent with a few minor scuffs [1″ hairline split in the paper’s top edge] whilst the discs are near ‘as new’).
