PRINCE Purple Rain Avant de Dormir Promotional Bag (Highly unusual vintage 1984 surrealistic transparent PVC shopping bag, with inner lining of PVC. Between the two transparent walls is a plastic & fabric purple rose, a small open envelope, a notecard which reads “I Love You, Prince”, and a purple vinyl ‘Purple Rain’ LP record, the bottom third of which has been cut off, to make it sit properly in the bag. The bag was specially designed by the Milanese creative duo, Avant de Dormir, and is based on several other bags in a series that began in 1984. Their bags were acclaimed by the fashion press, and orders flooded in from all the major cities in the US. Their most famous creation involved a trout floating in water! This ‘Prince’ variation is believed to be one of only ten in existence, created for senior WEA executives to celebrate the release of Prince’s Purple Rain album in 1984. The world famous V&A Museum has fully documented one held in their collection, gifted to them by Moira Bellas of WEA Records. This amazing example remains intact and complete, with only minor discolouration to the PVC, inevitable after 36 years. A truly extraordinary rarity which we are pleased to offer for sale for the first time…!
THE BEATLES Eskimo Fish Fingers (Super rare 1964 UK Eskimo Fish Fingers in-store counter display card, with all four individual black & white Beatles portrait cards. Wonderful item that was created to advertise a promotional campaign that offeredfree Beatles photo-cards with any purchase of Eskimo Fish Fingers. The display measures 10.5″ x 11.5″ and features four portrait images of the band alongside the promotional text, “Your Favourite Beatle Photo Free” and “Choose One Photo WithEach Pack of Eskimo Fish Fingers”! Included with the display is the complete set of photo cards, measuring 3.5″ x 6″, each black & white image (well it was the first half of the ’60s) includes a facsimile signature and small bio on the reverse – apparently George was once an apprentice electrician and Paul likes Kraft Cheese Slices and girls who can make intelligent conversation! The card display shows some light creasing although nothing excessive and just some very minor discolouration, the postcards show a little age-related wear but no rips, tears or any other unsightly marks. Whilst many of the postcards do turn up this feature display is one the finest known examples to survive – ephemera such as this was never available to the public and the short-term transitory nature of this in-store promotional display guarantees its rarity today. A true Beatles collectors’ item and a wonderful reminder of a time when the country was firmly in the grip of ‘Beatlemania’).
JIMI HENDRIX Classic Hendrix (Very rare 2005 UK Genesis Publications numbered limited Collector’s Edition 292-page superior quality book compiled by Ross Halfin with 250 images drawn from the archives of 34 of the world’s most celebrated rockphotographers – including Jim Marshall, Gered Mankowitz, Baron Wolman, Jean-Pierre Leloir and Elliot Landy, with biographical text by the editor of Guitar World magazine Brad Tolinski, creating the most comprehensive visual memoir of Jimi everpublished. The book numbered #1019 is quarter-bound in purple leather with silk-screen printed aluminium boards featuring images of Jimi in fluoro inks, printed on high quality paper edged in prismatic silver and signed by both Ross Halfin & Brad Tolinski. Housed in a black buckram box silk-screen printed with six fluorescent guitar strings across the lid – Yet another magnificent book to the high quality we have come to expect from Genesis, in Near Mint condition)
