This week we have some very rare brit-jazz from Tony Crombie, a 65 year old record from the one and only Charlie Parker, as well as a high quality reissue from Horace Silver
Below are just some of the highlights, and you can see the full catalogue over at our Jazz Collectors Store.
CHARLIE PARKER Charlie Parker Big Band (Very rare 1954 US 10-track LP on a deep groove black Clef ‘Trumpeter’ label, pasted picture sleeve with sleeve notes by Norman Granz & tape reinforced bottom seam. As can be expected after over sixty years, the sleeve does show a degree of shelfwear, with a split to the top seam and edge scuffing but far less than you would expect. The vinyl too shows several scuffs and surface hairlines but none deep enough to affect play and it plays through without fault although a degree of background noise should be expected. An acceptable, if not mint, copy of this very rare album at an advantageous price MGC-609).
TONY CROMBIE & HIS FRIENDS Whole Lotta Tony (Rare Brit-Jazz 1961 UK 12-track mono LP on a rough textured red & gold Ember label in the Flamingo Jazz series, recorded in London in August that year with a formidable class of Britain’s cream of the crop; Harold McNair on alto sax & flute, Gordon Beck on piano & harpsichord, Tommy Whittle & Bobby Wellins alternating on tenor sax, Malcolm Cecil on bass & Tony on the sticks. Includes some great song titles like Gut Bucket, Flute Salad, Brazilia & The Gang-Busters! The front laminated flipback picture sleeve is a nice off white with no writing & just a few small chips to the laminate at the edge. The spine appears Near Mint, the flipbacks are secure & there is a small unobtrusive paper tear on the back in the white section, barely noticeable. The heavyweight vinyl is clean & grades Excellent with just the very lightest few signs of play EMB3336).
HORACE SILVER The Stylings Of Silver (2011 US limited edition 6-track ‘Blue Note The Definitive 45RPM Reissue Series’ remastered Double LP set pressed on Audiophile quality 45rpm 180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl by Music Matters Ltd., originally released in 1957, also starring Art Farmer on Trumpet, Hank Mobley on Tenor, Teddy Kotick on Bass & Louis Hayes on Drums; within an high quality interal pasted front laminated heavy card gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve displays minimalwear and the vinyl looks barely played MMBLP-1562).
